A closer look: mental wellness check ins
What is a mental wellness check in?
Just how you need a check up from the doctor every so often, your mental wellbeing needs a check in, too. Check in questions are simple questions or prompts to get you to pause and think.
On Decompress, every day has several check in questions, and they usually pertain to that day’s topic; you need not answer all of them. You can choose the ones you feel will benefit you that day!
What is the benefit of a check in?
Acknowledging feelings that may weigh on you otherwise might help lighten the load. Other questions are aimed at viewing your relationships with others, with yourself, and with other things around you. Your mental wellbeing deserves as much attention as your physical wellbeing.
How to answer check in questions
Everyone might have a different way of answering the check in questions on Decompress. Here are a few tips you can use, too!
Focus
Focus on only answering the question. Try not to be distracted by other things (open tabs, music, outside noises) when you are answering the question.
Ask why
Once you have answered the question, it may be helpful to understand why you are feeling that way. It’s okay to not know; not everything will have a ‘why’ behind it.
Choose one or two questions out of them
If you don’t feel up to it, don’t feel pressured to push yourself to answer all the questions. They are there for you to pick and choose :) Answering one rather than three may help you dig deep on that one particular one.
Make a routine of it
If you can’t answer the questions everyday (which is ok!), try assigning days that you will answer the questions. It will help you build a routine.
Check in for today
Questions for everyday check ins:
How am I feeling emotionally and physically?
What’s taking up most of my thoughts?
When I am doing nothing, what is in the back of my mind?
When did I last eat a proper snack and/or full meal?
remember to take care of yourself mentally and physically!
What is one thing I can do today that will bring me joy?
