Motivation
Today we talk about motivation. Three important parts of motivation are activation, persistence, and intensity. Activation is the decision to start the activity. Persistence is when you keep at it, “the continued effort”. Intensity is how much focus, energy, or intent you put into an activity.
We may struggle with a combination of any of the three parts. For example, a student might find it hard to start studying, but once they do, it’s not so bad. On the other hand, an athlete finds it easy to start, but they go through their routine without energy or concentration - they’re just going through the motions.
Hopefully today’s page can give you tips and strategies to overcome challenges with motivation :)
Here are your check in questions:
1. Out of the three parts of motivation, which is the most difficult one for you?
2. Which activities do you find the most motivation for? Which the least?
3. Why do you think you have motivation for some things rather than others?
Post your answers to our Community Board with the button below! Answer with your name or not - totally up to you.

Strategies for Motivation
Reward yourself when it’s due: sometimes there’s homework you just don’t want to get done. You’d much rather be watching your favorite show or relaxing. Make this your reward after you get your work done. It can provide some motivation to get the homework out of the way.
Set goals for yourself: Setting relevant, time bound, and realistic goals can help motivate you. If you see the end goal, motivation kicks in to get you there. Writing goals down and putting them somewhere you see everyday can especially help.
Don’t beat yourself up when something doesn’t get done. It’s okay. Some days motivation won’t be there. Try to get up and go for it again the next day :)
Try positive affirmations to tell yourself that you’re doing good. Even a little step towards your goal is a step.
An accountability buddy
Building a group that motivates each other can help you meet your goals. It could be a workout, writing, or personal habit group. It can even be one other person. You check in with one another every so often to help each other stay on track!
Make sure to remind each other of everyone’s successes to keep motivation and spirit up.
