The Power of Storytelling

Today on Decompress, I want to talk about how storytelling is changing the way we view mental health.

Writing can help us with our mental health. It can clear up emotional space in our minds, express our thoughts and emotions in a healthy way, and help us concentrate on one thing - the writing!

That is why Iā€™d like to take some time to talk about this important part of our mental health - expressing our emotions through writing. Some questions that you can ask yourself:

  1. How do I usually express my emotions and my thoughts?

  2. In my expression, which are the emotions that are most present? Which are not?

  3. Would I be open to exploring a new channel, like writing? Why or why not?

A Writing Community

We want to help you share experiences with others in a safe, supportive space.

There are many different ways to tell your story.

Personally, I like to write fictional stories with lessons about mental health weaved into them. Others may prefer personal memoirs or essays to put their real life experiences on paper.

Our blog, 'Our Stories', is now accepting writing submissions! Anonymous and named submissions are both welcomed.

If you would like to submit longer pieces of writing, please email decompress.reminders@gmail.com.
